Aerosol
The aerosol is a medical device that allows drug solutions to be micronized in order to reach the upper and lower airways. Through a compressor or the generation of ultrasounds, the droplets of drug solution reach such dimensions as to allow the deposition at the bronchial level. The latest generation aerosols, on the other hand, work thanks to a different mechanism: mesh nebulizers are made with a thin membrane containing microscopic holes. A vibrating element pushes the drug through the fine holes in the membrane. This generates an aerosol composed of tiny droplets. These nebulizers are also very quiet and lightweight, making them ideal for use when traveling and for children.
The challenge for aerosols is to produce droplets small enough to enter the bronchial tubes and large enough not to be exhaled. Noise and battery life are then other distinctive elements that lead to prefer one product over another.
